BOXING

MORGAN BEATS CAREY Morgan, 10.2, beat W. Carey’ 10.3 in a ten-round professional contest at Christchurch last night. The fight was stopped in the ninth round. Morgan led all the way. Carey was floored with a loft hook to the jaw in the eighth round, and in the ninth was down for eight, and was dropped again almost immediately. He rose on a short count, but was again down for eight. Morgan got in a hard left to the jaw, and the referee stepped between the boxers aud gave his award to Morgan.
