FORESTERS Tiie accommodation at the Foresters’ Hall, Albany street, was severely taxed, when Court Pride of the Leith held its fortnightly meeting on Wednesday last. The attendance of visitors and members was well over 200. Official Vi 'is were received from Courts St, Andrews, Excelsior, Little John, Pride of Green Island, Woodland’s Pride, Marion, and Queen of Green Island. Bro. H: W. Cockhurn, who occupied the, initiated four candidates. The toast of “The Visitors” was responded to by S.W. Sister Chalmers, C.S., Sister Harrison, C.R. Sister Powell. C.T. Bro. 11. H. Richmond, P.C.R. Pro. J. H. Reynolds, C.R. Bro. J. T. Wilson, and C.R. Bro. R. Leyland. Four nominations were accepted, and the meeting, which opened early, closed, to enable the court to produce a farce entitled ‘The Case Against Casey, which was given in tho lower hall. The breach of promise _ trial met wit' approval. The principal characters were taken by Bro. R. S. Vercoe (judge), plaintiff (IVliss Dottie Perkins), Bro. J. Benfell, defendant (Denis Casey), Bro. R. S. Twoso. Bros W. J. Duncan and M. H. Gaston appeared as counsel for the parties, and the duties of the clerk of the court were carried out by Bro, H, Brown. The empanelling of the jury caused much laughter and amusement, and the evidence of the witnesses was also highly diverting. There were twenty-three members in the cast of character.?, and the whole production was most successful. The evening closed with a danco.

There was a fair attendance of members at the meeting of Court Excelsior on Tuesday last, presided over by C.R. Bro. J. T. Wilson. An official visit was received from Court Enterprise. It was decided to discuss the court rules at each meeting, and arrangements were completed for the competition for the P.C.R. charge at next meeting, when P.D.C.R. Bro. W. Sinclair and P.C.R. Bro. Thomson, of Court Little John, will act as judges, A presentation was made to P.C.R. Bro. G D. Hay for his work and mterest in the court over a lengthy period. P.C.R.’s Bros. G. G. Walmsley and G. E. Hodgkinson were presented with .the certificates of that office. The toast of “The Visitors” was responded to by P.C.R. Bro. I). Auld. Bro., Hr A. A. Reid delivered an interesting and instructive address, and at the close cards and supper terminated the meeting. The meeting of Court Pride of Ciutha Valley, Cl.vdevale, was held on Wednesday last, when C.R. Bro. J. Lning presided over, a fair attendance of members. A gratifying report was that there were no members on the sick lists One new member was admitted, and one nomination was received. The fortnightly meeting of Conrt Pride of Goro was hold in the band room, Gore, last Thursday, when C.R. Sister Reid presided over a good attendance of members. It. was decided to hold a card tournament and dance in the Town Hall. On behalf of the court, the C.R. presented to P.C.R. Bro. P. Atkinson with the collar of that office. Ono now member was admitted and one nomination leccived. The conrt resolved to pay a visit to Court Star of Heriot at an early date. A pleasant meeting closed with cards. There was a large attendance of members at the meeting of Court Woodland’s Pride, the chair being occupied by the C.R., Sister Powell. Several invitations were accepted from sister courts. Official visits were received from Courts Pride of the Leith and Pride of Dunedin One nomination was received, and the meeting dosed, when/ the members of tho Loyal Dunedin Lodge, M.U., were admitted and welcomed. Owing to next meeting falling on Labour Day, the cour 1- . resolved to meet on Tuesday. P.C.R. Sister Hynes was elected as Press steward for tho current term. A pleasant evening was spent at cards and dancing, the duties of M.C. being carried out by Bro. H. W. Cockhnrn. Court Queen of Molyneux held its meeting on Wednesday last, at Clark’s Buildings, Balclutha, when C.R. Sister Davie presided over a good attendance of members. An invitation was accepted from Court Enterprise to attend its anniversary celebrations this week. It was decided to join in with Court Molyneux to make up a large party for the trip. After the close of the meeting a social hour was spent. C.R. Sister C. K. Kane presided over a very large gathering of the members of Court Queen cf Green Island. An invitation was accepted from Court Pride of Green Island. One new member was _ad mitted and one nomination received. It was decided to launch a special membership campaign for tho remainder of this year, and from the enthusiasm displayed, the goal set by the members should be attained.

The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Dunedin Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., was held in the M.U. Hall, Stuart street, on Thursday evening, N.G. Bro. Haugh presiding. There was a good attendance of members and visiting brethren. The meeting opened in mourning for the Into Bro. R. E. Cameron, and a motion of sympathy was carried, several members referring to the late brother’s sterling qualities, A special summoned meeting was held for the purpose of a trustee. There being only one nomination, Bro. D. G. Calder was duly elected. The lodge is to be congratulated on having secured the services of such an efficient officer. The lodge was then adjourned to enable the trustees to carry out their evening, -which took the form of cards. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Hand and Heart Lodge attracted a large muster of visiting bretheren, the N.G., Bro. 11. Pithie in the chair. An invitation to attend a friendly societies’ church parade on November 3 was received. Two letters of recommendation in favour of members of the Loyal Dalton and Prince of Wales Lodges were received.. Next lodge night being Past Grands’ night, it was

decided that tho elderly past officers take tho chairs, and conduct the meeting. Some discussion took place on a proposed visit to the Loyal Prince Alfred (Waikouaiti) Lodge, tho matter being held over until a later date. At the conclusion of business a successful “ ladies’ night ” was held, some 100 members and visitors taking part in a euchre tournament. The N.G., Bro. R. Lee, presided at the fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Upper Clutha Lodge, whic hwas well attended by members A presentation of an emblematical certificate was made to P.G. Bro. Brooks, P.P.G.M. Bro. G. Goughian congratulating the recipient on the very keen interest he had at all times taken in the work of the lodge. In connection with the recent half-yearly district meeting, held in the lodge room, the lodge thanks those members who assisted in entertaining the delegates during their stay in the district. Votes of thanks were accorded Permanent Secretary Bro. C. Wilson, Mrs Goughian, and other ladies for good services rendered in this connection. A committee of seven members was set up for the purpose of making arrangements for the entertaining of the Upper Clutha children on Christmas Eve. It was decided to forward a letter to a member, Bro. Kane, who has been seriously ill, wishing him _ a speedy recovery. During the evening one proposition for membership was received. The Loyal Princess Mary Lodge met in the Lodge Hall, Forbury corner, when the N.G., Sister M‘Kay, presided over a good attendance. One candidate was initiated. It was decided to hold a danco next lodge night to celebrate the anniversary of the lodge. After business had been transacted the remainder of the evening was taken up with a “Dutch auction,” Bro. J. Robson, of tho Loyal Valley Lodge, efficiently carrying out the duties of auctioneer Visiting members of Loyal Centenary, Valley, and Caversham Lodges responded to the toast of visiting brethren.■
