AFRICAN WAR VETERANS

DOMINION EXECUTIVE MEETS [Feb United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, October 31. There was a full attendance of the Dominion Executive of the South African War Veterans’ Association at the last meeting, which was presided over by the dominion president, Captain J. J. Clark. Satisfaction was expressed at the renewed interest being manifested throughout the dominion in the affairs of the association. Regarding the recent deputations to Ministers, the President stated that the Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward), the Defence Minister (Mr Wilford), and Messrs Veitch, Forbes, and de la Perrelle had treated the deputations with the utmost courtesy, and had been most sympathetic with regard to the various matters brought before their notice. It was hoped that satisfactory results would follow. Regarding the long-delayed publication of the official history of New Zealand’s part in the South African War which the Minister of Defence had .stated (in reply to a denutation from the Dominion Executive) would be put in hand, the earnest hope was expressed that the work would be proceeded with at once. Several necessitous' cases were considered. In the matter of pensions it was decided to notify veterans applying to the association that application, in any case, would have to be made to the Pensions Board. The application would be supported by the executive, which was always anxious to see that the interests of veterans were protected and advanced in every possible manner. It was decided to make several improvements in the' association’s annual publication, ‘ The Veteran,’ and a special sub-committee, consisting of Major P. Do B. Brandon and Messrs J. A. Shand and J. T. Tilling (the dominion secretary), was appointed, to go fully into the matter and report to next meeting of the Dominion Executive.
