MATCHES IN THE NORTH AUCKLAND The Auckland Association’s senior championship competition was commenced in ideal weather.' Results;— University 330 (Gerrard 91, Schmauer 62, Smceton 55,VBugh 51) met Eden. Ponsonby 194 (Guiney 47) played Parnell 41 for two wickets. Grafton 277 (Horspool 104, Allcott 81, Watters 43) met _ North Shore, who scored 9 for no wickets. Y.M.C.A. 239 (Elliott 72, Sutherland 61) played United Suburbs; WELLINGTON The Wellington season was opened in overcast and windy conditions, following a week of perfect' weather. The wickets wern in very good order for so early in the season. Mackenzie, for University (also a representative footballer! scored the first century of the season when he made 126 against Old Boys, being caught and bowled. Leys made a useful 64, and the University innings produced 320. Kilbirnie scored 167 (Ward 95 not out) against Midland, who lost four wickets for 42. Petone made 206 against Institute, and Wellington made 201 against Hutt. CHRISTCHURCH In the first round of competition matches Old Boys beat Limvoocl, Riccarton beat Old Collegians, East Christchurch beat West Christchurch, and Sydenham beat St. Albans. AH the matches were won on the result of the first innings The best scores during the day were; Tastie 64. Dailey 44 not out. Bmith 75. Cox 78, Allen 69. Condliffe 56, Jarrett 40, Kennedy 60, Brosnahan 64 not out. The most outstanding bowler was Mm-rett. who capture/ six for 32 for Old Boys against Linwood.
