HILLSIDE AMBULANCE BRIGADE

PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES A successful social evening was held oy the No. 1 Loco Ambulance Division iu the Hillside Social Hull on Saturday evening. The chairman (Mr G. Syder), in a few well-chosen words, welcomed the visitors, included among whom were the Hon. W. B. Taverner (Minister of Railways), Colonel and Mrs Barclay (chief commissioner), Dr Borrie (assistant commissioner), Dr Barnett, Dr and Mrs Greenslado, and Mr and Mi’s Rodgers, Mr and Mrs Moffat, Mr and Mrs Atkinson, Mr and Mrs Person. The programme was well received, and consisted of musical items, songs, and recitations as follows: Pianoforte solo, Miss G. Syder; recitation, Miss G. Murray; piano and saxophone duet, Miss R. Holmes and Mr Hunter: song, Miss M‘Curdy; recitation, Mr Bain; song, Mr Chill; recitation, Master D. Todd; sketch, Messrs Sincock, Bauchop, O’Neill, Holland. Miss R. Holmes acted as accompanist. During the evening Mr J. Atkinson, in a few well-chosen words, presented the certificates to the successful candidates who sat at the annual examination. The following were successful at the annual examination : Qualified for Medallion.—P. Cull, J. Dickson, J. Duncan, B. Marsh, D. M'Fic, J. M'Enenany, B. M‘Curdy, A. Westfield, J. Shaw, G. S. Syder, A. Lincoln, B. Keating, W. Davidson, G. Murray, G. Harris. Advanced Aid.—J. Harrison, W. Motion, T. M'Lennan, A. Clarke, J. Sanderson. C. Young. First Aid.—F. L. Philip, D. S. Maclean. D. F. L. Holland, R. H. Hunter, T. Stephenson, E. Kruskopf. Dr Grecnslade, hon. Surgeon of tho division and lecturer of the class during the last’ two years, was called upon by the secretary of the division (Mr D. M'Fee); who made him a handsome presentation, which consisted of a smoker’s outfit and inkstand. Dr Grecnslade, in reply, thanked the division for its gifts and expressed the pleasure it had given him to lecture to the class.

The principal event of the evening was the presentation of the ‘ ‘ Charles Tuck Memorial Cup ” by Mr D. Munro, ' which was competed for on the Oval, October 13. Four teams of the division competed. Dr Fulton, who judged the competition, awarded No. 4 squad the cup, the squad comprising W. Motion, T. Stephenson, L. Philip, D. Holland. The chairman, on behalf of Mrs Tuck and family, then unveiled an enlarged framed photograph of her late husband, and in doing so asked Mr Shaw (superintendent of the division) to accept it on their behalf. Mr Shaw suitably replied. Supper was provided in the dining room attached to the social hall.
