BOOTLEGGERS’ PROFITS
THE RECENT ROUHD-UP BANKS MAY BE INDICTED Pr*** Asaodtlien—By Telegraph—Copyright. » 1 ~~~~ NEW 7 YORK, October IS. (Received October 19, at 9 a.m.) Seven banks which handled bootleg accounts and loaned vast_ sums to “ emperors ” of the booze ring to buy Scotch whisky in England may bo indicted following the arrest of the chief actors in Wednesday’s raids. The ring’? business apparently averaged £200,000 per week. Every 'Saturday they declared a 12 per cent, to lo per .cent, dividend so that if ever a blowup came, as has apparently happened, settlements between the rum barons would bo almost up-to-date. Federal agents found that the remarkable success of the rum syndicate was partly due to spies in Uncle Sam s coastguard service,_ wearing the country’s uniform.—United Service.
