BUTTER AND CHEESE. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., has received the following cable from London, dated October 16:—Rutter: New Zealand choicest salted, 182 s to 184 s. Cheese: White and coloured, 935. Markets quiet. TALLOW MARKET, Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from London, dated October 16:—At the London sales this week 1,095 casks of tallow were offered and 36 per cent, sold —394 casks sold. Prices for most descriptions are 6d per cwt lower. There will be no public sales next week. STARR-BOWKETT. A meeting of members of the United Starr-Bowkett Building Society was held last evening to dispose of £3,000. Mr E. A. Rosevear, chairman of directors, who presided, stated that this made a total of £8,600 disposed of during the last month, £5,600 of the money being lent, interest free, lor 12£ years. £SOO were balloted for in the seventysixth appropriation in No. 5 group, and cluster No. 64 was drawn, held by one member. A sale of £SOO for the seventy-seventh appropriation in No. 5 group was then taken, and the money was sold at £2O per £IOO. The sixty-fourth appropriation of £SOO by ballot in No. 6 group resulted in cluster No. 293 being drawn, held by one shareholder. The sale of £SOO for the sixty-fifth appropriation in No. 6 group brought £22 per £IOO. A ballot of £SOO was then hekl for the forty-eighth appropriation in No._ 8 group, the successful cluster being No. 320. held by one member. A sale of £SOO for the forty-ninth appropriation in No. 8 group was held, the price realised being £26 per £IOO. SYDNEY WOOL SALES. Press Automation —By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY. October 17. At the wool sales 5.335 bales were sold. There was spirited competition for all the best descriptions, which were from liar to 5 per cent, higher on the average, and faulty 74 to 10 per cent, higher. It is learned from wellinformed quarters that the recent drop was chiefly due to speculators bearing the market.
