TRANSPORT DISPUTE. Strong opposition is being offered to the Auckland Transport Board in its effort to have certain employees covered by the Local Bodies Labourers’ Award, the union contending that its members are covered by an agreement between the board and the Tramwaymcn’s Union. The district council of the Alliance of Labour declares that the board’s action is a “ sympathetic attempt to smash the Tramways Union,” and has passed resolutions urging the Local Bodies Labourers’ Union to refuse to bo used by the board as a weapon against the tramwaymen.— Press Association. BAIL FORFEITED. T)vo sureties lost the amount of their bondsi £SU each, when an application by the Crown to estreat the bonds was allowed by Mr Justice Adams in the Supremo Court, Christchurch. The case concerned a man named Holt, who i absconded on August 17 while awaiting I trial. The sureties wero Holt’s brother-in-law, Mr H. Harris, and the latter's wife.-—Press Association.
