OPERATIONS AT WAIPORI
GUY'S ELECTRICAL SUPPLY PROGRESS OF WORK Progress of work at Waipori is full? covered in the report of the E.P. and L. Committee, which will be considered at Wednesday night’s meeting of the City Council. Tho report states; — Advice has been received that the new 3,000 k.w, unit for tho main station has been completed,' and 'will ha shipped from England during the present month. The transformers- are already at sea. As there will be no p.po line 'for this machine owing to the indefinite postponement of the work as the result of tho earth movement on tho present line, it is proposed to make a temporary connection with No. 0 pipe line, which can be done with very little trouble. While this will not allow of the machine being used to full advantage it will provide tho station wit.i a valuable standby, and will in addition enable the water supply to be used much more economielly than is the case with the small machine, which will be replaced. ■As the recent earth movement at. Waipori has necessitated the postponement, and possibly the ultimate abandonment of further pipe line opera* tious on the area affected, the plates on order for the next pipe lino are not no.v required. After careful enquiries the committee is satisfied that it would be advisable to authorise tho department’s London agents to arrange for the sale of the plates in England,; where they are now awaiting shipment. There will unfortunately bo a fairly substantial loss entailed, but that m unavoidable under the circumstances. The boring operations on the pipe line route at Waipori have been continued throughout tho past fortnight, and the shaft at Cosy lias also been carried down - to. 23ft. Satisfactory results have not yet been obtained, and the plant has accordingly been shifted to block F, where boring is now proceeding. The city engineer’s reports showing the progress* of the various operations under his charge at Waipori during the past two weeks cover excavations at* Mahinerangi Dam, erection of cableways plant, construction of washing plant and gravel track, and construction of 7ft pip© line. Tho city engineer also reports that the concrete work on the conduit at the weir has now been completed, and preparations are nj. hand for grouting where necessary ami the cleaning up work. The concrete, work round the whole of the foundations for No. 1 power station has now been completed as far as possible until the machinery shall have been placed ru position
