—Ministerial.— The Hon. W. B. Taverner (Ministct. of .Railways) came to Dunedin on Saturday evening ami went away, bound for Wellington, by the 8.40 traiui this morning. Mr Alex. Burt came home by the express early this morning after a visit to his firm’s brandies in the north. Mr G. Al. Lloyd left by the south express this morning for Invercargill. Mr G. A. Lewin, town clerk, has resumed duty after a short vacation. in delivering this afternoon his presidential address to the New Zealand Society of Accountants, Air James Hogg referred to the fact that the council was losing this year the services of Air Peter Barr, of Dunedin, and Air E. Webb, of Invercargill. “'1 ieel certain,” said Air Hogg, “that every member will be with mo when 1 lay special emphasis on the splendid wonc of Mr Barr in the council and the great contribution h© made to tho cause of accountancy m tins dominion. He was one of the outstanding figures in they lirst council, and occupied the presidential chair with dignity and ability during the lirst four difficult years ot tlia society’s existence. Air Ban; now retires after twenty years’ service to tho cause of his profession, and we desire to say in no uncertain way that his services have been fully appreciated by all members of this society. Air Frank Webb lias represented Southland for nine years on the council, and during that period has rendered faithful service, and he has now voluntarily retired from office.” Dr F. H. Al/Mccimn, of Cleveland, Ohio, tho secretary-general of the international Aiuesthesia Research Society, who was the chief guest and speaker at the luncheon of the New Zealand Chib in Wellington on Thursday, was presented with a silver kiwi mounted ou greenstone from the club at the conclusion ot his address. Ihe presentation was made by the president oi the New, Zealand branch of the British Alcdicat Association (Dr J. S. Elliott) on behalf of tho club. Dr APAlechan, in Ids reply, stated that ho had been almost swept off his feet with_ hospitality and kindness since his arrival in the dominion. ; Dr Robert Strang, who has been appointed senior x-esidont surgical officer at the Dunedin Hospital, is at present house surgeon in tho Royal Infirmary at Leicester, England. lie is twentyeight years of age, and unmarried. Dr Strang graduated M. 8., Ch.B., in tlio University of Edinburgh m July. 11)25. In his final .year as an undergraduate! he acted as tho student demonstrator in anatomy, and also held the oliico of president of the University Athletic: Chib and honorary secretary ot tho University Union. Since graduation ho has held tho following appointments;— House surgeon, surgical out-patient department, Royal infirmary, Edinburgh, 1925-26; obstetric house physicion, Radclili'o infirmary, Oxford, 1926, senior house surgeon, RadHiiFe Infirmary, Oxford, 1927'; assistant administrator of anatomy, University of Edinburgh, 1927-28; and house surgeon, Royal infirmary, Leicester, 1928-29.
