TO-DAY'S TOURNEY FLAY Under a warm sun shining _ over Logan Park tho South Island primary schools’ Soot tournament was commenced this me ning, when two games in the bantam grade were played off'. In all eight teams will play in the tournament—rtwo from Westland, two from Canterbury, two from Southland, and two Iron. Otago. Tho teams were each photographed this morning before making a start with the,, games, and the visitors were briefly welcomed by the mayor (Mr R. S. Black), who impressed upon tho hoys the need for team work foi the whole of New Zealand and not for any particular province. Ho pointed'out that tho boys who trained and took an interest in any game would excel in that game, and the same thing applied to success in life. In conclusion, ho wished them all a pleasant time while in Dunedin. .The first two teams to play were Westland and Canterbury, the former defeating the latter by 5 goals to 2. Westland did nearly all the attacking, th% forwards especially combining well. The following were the scorers: —AVestland; Harvey, Pattin (2), Hogg (2). Canterbury: Allen (2). In tho second game, Otago v. Southland, the play was fairly oven,, although Otago succeeded in winning by 4 goals to 0. There was not a great deal of spoctaculm play, although the match was quite interesting to watch. The scorers were:—Otago: Reynolds (2), Ferguson, and Henderson. This afternoon two A grade matches were played. Tho tournament continues to-morrow and Wednesday.
