HARRIERS

ANGLICAN, Tho Anglican bob' its three-' ile championship for tho soldiers’ Memorial Cup, resulting in a most interesting race. A comparatively small field of ton faced the starter, and tho pace was a cracker from the commencement. At the finish of the first lap Price led Holmes and Stewart bv a yard, Tavlor and Russell - being close up. At the end of the second lap Stewart was in tho load, but was still closelv followed bv Holmes and Price. With a mile to go Stewart clapped on tho pace, and soon established a comfortable lead, finally winning by about COvds from Price, Talvor being third and Holmes fourth. Stewart’s tune was 16min 26sec, winch was excellent, considering the sodden state of the track. The sealed handicap was won by M. Fitchett, whoso win was well-deserved. Tho thanks ‘of the club are due to tho Forbury Park TrotClub for the use of their grounds, also to tho members who acted as officials CIVIL SERVICE. Tho weekly run of tho above club, hold from the Albany Street School, drew a large attendance of members, including ox-Captaiu Stevens, who is down here on holidays. The slow pack, under Captain Brown and Deputy-cap-tain Manderson, took a rather short run through Logan Park, over the hills, returning through Opoho. C. H. Tracey was first home, followed closely by E. C, Brown and R. L. Manderson. The fast pack, under Acting Deputy-captain M‘Kornan, indulged in some solid road work in preparation for the Port Road Race. The road was followed to Burkes, where, after a short rest, a long, steady run home commenced C. K. Melville led the field home, with M'Crombie dose up and the rest of the field following well bunched. NORTHERN. The above club, dispensing with paper, held .its run from the Woodliaugh Methodist Church. Tho Leith Valley road was followed to Sullivan’s Dam. After a run round the dam a fast and slow pack were despatched, good pace being maintained by both packs. The run resulted in J. Yates, N Henderson, and R. M‘Kinley being tho first three homo. HANOVER BAPTIST. Fino weather prevailed for the club’s usual Saturday afternoon run. Tho starting place was Mussel Bay, A good attendance turned out to enjoy one of tho best cross-country runs of tho season since such a one has not been held since Juno 15. After leaving Mussel Bay the pack proceeded up the road towards Scott’s monument. This and Lane’s Rocks were passed. Tho road was very muddy, and consequently slippery, as it wound round the hillside, At lost it turned into a grass track, and this was followed downhill to the railway line. Following along the side of this tho pack reached the Mihiwaka tunnel. From there tho trail followed over the hill at tho back of tho tunnel. Some good cross-country work was put in until they reached the track leading to Deborah Bay. This coastal road was followed back to Port Chalmers. On passing through tho Main street fast pace was sot. In the run home tho results were as follow :—L. Medliu 1, A. Smith 2, G. Meggett 0. There will be no nm next Saturday on account of tho Hew Zealand Crosscountry Championship being hold at Wiugatui. LEITH, The Leith ‘Club hold its first sports meeting at tho Ross Creek reservoir. The track and weather conditions were not conducive to good running or fast times. Good fields started m every event. Results 100 Yards.—A M ; Rae (2yds) 1, C. Ashby (oyds) 2, S. King (scr) 3. Won by inches; 2ft between second and third. 220 Yards.—A. M £ Rae (2yds) 1, S. King (scr) 2, A. Ross (6yds) 3. Won by’ IJyds. SSO Yards.—Anderson (syds) 1, Masters (10yds) 2, King (oyds) 3. Won by Gin; Ift between second and third. CARGILL ROAD METHODISTS. Tho Cargill Road Methodist Hamers hold their first sports meeting at Forbury Park. Tho events which were held were 100yds, putting tho shot, 880yds, and high jump. The 100yds was run off in two heats. First heat'; Wellington 1, Rockcliffc 2; second heat—Barclay 1, Graves 2; final—Wellington (scr) 1, Rockcliffc (7yds) 2, Barclay (scr) 3. Putting the shot was the nest event, 0. Brown, with Ift handicap, and R. Sanders, with sft, canio in with a dead heat. The 830yds was next, which was won by C Brown (50yds), Barclay (30yds) being second. The high jump was then held:—\V. Wellington (3in) 1, (Barclay (scr) and Ridley (lin) equal, second. The officials were C. E. Ridley, \V Gray, A. Penn. ST. KILDA. St. Hilda held its second sports meeting at Forbury Park. Watson (3ft Din), 30ft lin, 3. High Jump.—J. Matheson (lin), 4ft lOin, 1; G. Sabiston (3in), 4ft Din, 2; J. Rodgerson (lin), 4ft Sin, and A. Bond (4in), 4ft Sin, equal, 3. Mile Walk.—6. Sabiston 1, J. Delaney 2, C. Pope 3 ABBOTSFORD. The Abbotsford Methodist Club held its three-mile handicap at Wingatui. Owing to the recent rains the track w.as almost a swamp. Mr P. F. Bennett started the race, and Mr Orange was timekeeper. The first man home was C. Gare, who won by about 50yds, with G. Berry second and A. Keen third. CAVERSHAM. With an attendance of about thirtythree members, tho Cavershatn held its final run from tho Garrison Hall, Port Chalmers. The remainder of the season will bo devoted to club sports meetings. G. C. W’ootten and C. Kerr were responsible for an excellent trail which led up the bill to the cairn, branching off to tho left and skirting the reservoir plantation till the road was reached again. The trail then crossed the road and passed through some thick bush, coming to tho railway lino on the Port side of the Mihiwaka tunnel. From here some good harrier country was traversed till Deborah Bay was reached. The packs then divided for the run home, the fast pack giving tho slow pack a good start. In a fast finish L. Wood was first home, followed by J. Tapp, A. Sadler, and G. Hebbavd, in that order PACIFIC, Pacific ran from Mosgiel, and a rather poor attendance of -members had a very good run on the roads in the direction of Manngatua. A fast pace was set. and the runners showed the result of hard training by maintaining it to tho end. There ■ were very few who shone out at the finish, .as tho field was well bunched.
