When Frederick George Poulsen was charged in the Magistrate’s Court, P.altuerston North, with committing an aggravated assault on a feinalo the police asked for a remand until Thursday and opposed any bail, stating that the woman assaulted was accused’s mother. Counsel for accused made application for bail, characterising the police action in thiS respect as extraordinary, whereupon Senior-sergeant Whitehouse said her depositions might have to be taken, i A remand was granted, bail being allowed with sureties of £soo.—Press Association. SUSPECTED HOUSEBREAKER ARRESTED. Residents of the hill districts and St. Clair will be relieved to learn that the detectives have arrested a young man on charges of housebreaking in _ Morn-, ingion, Belleknowes, and St. Clair. The arrest was made at’noon by Detectives Russell and Jenvey. The accused will appear in the Police Court to-morrow morning. MEDICAL CONFERENCE AT SYDNEY. Sir Ewen Maclean, past president of the British Medical Association and professor of obstetrics and gynaecology at the Welsh National School of Medicine, arrived by the Tahiti en route for Sydnev to attend the Medical Conference. He stated that ho had greetings from the Central Council of the British Medical Association to the New Zealand and Australian branches, of whoso work the council was very ticularly regarding the fact that 93 per cent, of the profession of these countries was within the association. —Wellington Press Association telegram.

Air Justice Kennedy ‘awartTed Frederick Greeber, a gardener, £730 damages against Patrick Prendevalle, a farm labourer, for injuries sustained while cycling through being struck by the defendant’s motor car. The court found that the defendant should have seen the plaintiff from'a further distance back, and adjusted his movements accordingly, and that he should not have continued and endeavoured to pass another car with so little of the bitumen road available.—lnvercargill Press Association telegram.
