—Ministerial.—• Tin. Hon W. B. Taverner made J$ flying visit to Dunedin 1 at the weekend, arriving on Saturday evening and / going away by the 8.40 train this morning. The Hon. P. de la Perrello came south by Saturday’s express and went on to Wint-OM returning to Dunedin last night and taking passage for Wellington by this morning’s train. His Honour Mt Justice Kennedy left for Invercargill this morning. Mi Alexuudm Horne Smollio died at Green Island yesterday, after an illness of practically tiro years’ duration, which incapacitated him for business six months ago He was born in Glasgow in 1858; at ar. early age went with his pa vents to Manchester; and after leaving school entered the steelmaking department of the Manchester, Sheffield, and Lancashire Railway Company, subsequently tin Great Central Company, in the management of which he was eventually associated with his brother -William.' lie came to Otago in 188 p Ir the Doric, in company with his father and thro- brothers—John, William, and Peter. The settled in Green Island and founded the Otago ron Rolling Mills, which was afterwards turned into a company. Ho was married in 1884 to Miss Marion Bruce, of Liverpool, and this lady survives her husband with three sons—W illiam, Harold, an! Peter—and one daughter, Mrs Peters.
