ENGLISH HOTELS
PLEA FOR IMPROVEMENT LONDON, July 30. Just returned from Romo, where ho was mio of the English delegates at an international congress of hotelkeepers, Sir Francis Towle (head of a wellknown group of hotels) has lost no tune hero in telling his countrymen that they do not pay enough , attention to the" hotel industry. “ Though London’s hotels can compare favourably with the best in the World, the hotels in the smaller provincial towns are a disgrace to the country,” Sir Francis declared. He pointed out that taoftt of the hotels in this country were built by the railway companies before the days of motoring. What was needed now were first-class hotels along the main roads —say, at least one every hundred miles. , If they were to hold their own with other countries, they must get the right people to run hotels. The public should understand that the hotel industry was not content to be dubbed and looked upon as a branch of the publichouse trade.
