WOMAN’S £20,000 HOARD

LONDON. July 27. While the premises at Le Retraitc, Sfc. Ouens, Jersey, the property of the late Mrs May Ann Hubert, were being cleared following a sale, £20,000 was discovered, secreted in various parts of the estate. The money, which was mainly in gold and silver coins, was removed in barrels. Mrs Hubert, who died about two months ago, aged ninety-two, was known to have had a large income, although she lived simply. She was a direct lineal descendant of Sir George de Carteret, who was Govf ernor of Jersey during the reign of ■ King Charles 11., and to whom letters, - recently found in a secret drawer, were addressed in that King’s handwritiing.
