THE BUILDERS’ BALL

AN OLTSTANDING SUCCESS. From an early hour fill the commencement of the grand march a continual stream of eager participants wended their way to the Pioneers liali last evening, when that popular annuaj event, the Otago Master Builders Association’s annual ball, was fully patronised. The committee appointed to make the arrangements must have been highly pleased with its eflorts, for the ball this year ranks as the most successful vet held by-the association. The Pioneers’ Hall and the adjoining supper room were retained for dancing, while the Early Settlers’ Hall and the card room were lined with tables laden with delectable eatables. All the halls were most spectacularly decorated, most of the decorative accessories being retained from A. and T. Burt’s ball hold the previous week. In extending a welcome to those present Mr Walter Ellis (president of the association) emphasised how pleased he felt with the support that had been given to his association’s annual ball. They were indebted to the firm of A. and’T. Burt for the magnificent decorations. and ho specially mentioned the names of Messrs A. Burt (director), Geo. Wright, A. Hellyer, W. Cormack, and W. Turner for the assistance they had given his committee in making the function a success. They had also to thank- Air H. A. Hogg for an electric amplifier used in the second room to convey the delightful music supplied by Mr, Daggs’ orchestra. About, 300 couples responded to the sound of the music for the grand march, and after all had participated in this dancing was begun in earnest and continued to the early hours of the morning. A most varied routine of dances was chosen, and, judging by the hilarity in the old-time sets and the many happy faces, everyone was thoroughly
