THE SHARE MARKET DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE. Sales of Wilson’s Cements at 14s 9d and Broken Hill ■ Souths at 71s 6d were reported at this morning’s call of the Stock Exchange. Bank of New Zeeland shares wore asked for at 62s 9d, but there was no selling quote. Union Banks were wanted at £ls Is, without result. National Insurances provided .a buyer at 16s 3d, but no seller. Westport® were on offer at 35s 4d, with a buying quote at 335. Goldsbrough, Morts have improved to buyer 48s 6d without a seller. Dominion Rubbers had inquiry ot 30s, the response being o2e. ( The quotations for Mil burn Limes have improved to buyers at 39s 6d and sellers at 40s 6d. Smith and Smith preference shares wore wanted at 19s, nut the seller asked 20s 6d. New Zealand Breweries provided close quotations, the shares .being asked for at 64s 3d, with ft seller at 84s lid; and for both the debentures and the stock 28s 13 was offered, with sellers at 28s 7d. Electrolytic ■ Zinc preference issue showed a buyer at 40a 3d, the ordinary issue being asked-for at 40s 4d, with a seller for the latter at 40s Bd. This anomalous position created aome comment, as preference shares are usually quoted is higher than the ordinary issue. Mount Lyells have shown an improved market during the week, being wanted this morning at 43s lid, with no seller under 44s 6d. There was no change in other mining stocks nor in Government debentures. FRUIT AND PRODUCE Bray Brothers, Ltd., report as follows for the week ended to-day:— Ihe chaff market is steady. There is still sufficient to meet the local demand, which is quiet. Good quality is selling up to £6 5s per ton, sacks extra, ex store. The Canterbury market remains firm. Shipping business has been done there with the North Island, and prices' have ruled round about £6 15s, f.0.b., s.i., for prompt delivery. The oat market is firm. _ Forward sellers have had to cover their commitments, and sales of A Gartons have been made from Dunedin round about 3s 6d, f.0.b., s.i., and the price to fanners round about 2s ICki, sacks extra, on trucks, country sidings. In Canterbury the market appears to bo firmer. The demand for seed oats is on the quiet side, but an improvement is expected next month. The local wheat market shows little change, millers still having sufficient stocks to carry thenron. So far ns the Otago district is concerned, there is not now a great deal of milling wheat available, and prices are on a par ■with those ruling for some time past—namely, 5s 9d for Tuscan, country sidings, Gs for Hunters, and 6s 6d for Velvet. Fowl wdieat prices are firm, and bnj-ers in the North Island are showing more confidence in the market. Sales have been made there at 5s IDd, f.o b.. sacks extra. There is a good inquiry for both bran and pollard. The potato market continues firm, and good quality potatoes are readily placed at £9 10s to £lO per ton. A lot of the lines coming forward are only second quality, and aro difficult to place. Reports from Sydney go to show that the market there has declined £4 per ton, and if the embargo on New - Zealand grown potatoes-was lifted it would be difficult to send consignments there that would show a profit on the face of the price now ruling in Now Zealand. ■ . The onion market is keeping steady. Some good consignments are still coming forward from Canterbury, and best lines are selling round about £lO per ton .. , The egg market is better supplied, but the market is steady. Larger quantities of fresh eggs are now coming forward. Honey is in good supply, and prices are low. Some first-class samples are offering at 4}d to fid per lb. Hams and bacon are in good supply, and the market steady, Cheese is offering more freely. There is a good demand for old matured cheese. The butter market is also steady. Business in the fruit marts has been quiet during the week. Oranges are now short supply, and a shipme’nt is expected to arrive shortly. Bananas are in good supply, and prices moderate. There is a better inquiry for firstclass dessert and cooking apples. Vegetables are in better supply, but cabbage is short supply. Some fine samples of cauliflowers are- now coming on to the market. There is a fair demand for all good clean lines of fruit and vegetables. The following prices were realised during the week;— Section honey—Choice, 9s; medium, 7s: broken, 4s 3d; 41 b pats, 4s dozen; bulk, 4£d to fid; 101 b tins, 5s 0d; lib pottles, 7s; Sib pottles, 12s 6d. The Dunedin Stock Agents ami Woolbrokers’ Association reports as follows; At the second sale of the season, held yesterday, approximately 30,U00 skins were offered, a. big proportion of which wore North Island skins; consequently the quality was hardly up to the standard of the first sale. There was again a keen demand, particularly for blacks and browns, winch sold rather higher than last sales’ rates. Blues and greys hardly reached the extreme prices of the first sale, but sold very well, and results generally to trappers must be very gratifying. The top prices were ‘23s 2d eaclx for blues and 23s Id for blacks.
