DRUIDISM The fortnightly meeting of Linden Lodge, No. 5, was held on Tuesday, A.D. Bro. Pratt presiding over a good attendance of officers and mom hors. The lodge then adjourned foi the purpose I of carrying 'out a progressive euchre • evening. After a very keen and interesting game the following were declared the winners:—First (ladies). Mrs Olliver; booby (ladies), Mrs Reynolds; ; first (gents), Tiro. Stewart; booby, : Tiro. J. Owens. Brethren are especially requested to attend next lodge meeting, when some important proposals ! will be brought before the lodge. | Lily of the Valley Lodge held a. meeting in the Millar Street Hall, : North-east Valley, on Wednesday evenj ing, A-.D. Bro. \V. Doig presiding oyer a Targe attendance of members. T wo candidates wore proposed for membership, one being a transfer from the juvenile branch. At an early hour the lady friends of members were admitted, ■and a very enjoyable programme was carried out. Next meeting, the R.A.C. will hold a P.A. competition, and members are reminded of the Lodge Of Instruction to be held by the chapter at its rooms on Saturday, August 24. Pride of Morningtou met on Thursday night, with A.I). Bro. Butterwortli in the chair and a good attendance 01 members. Two delegates were appointed to be present at the openim,, of the new juvenile lodge at Palmerston on Tuesday. Members of Mistletoe Lodge -were present, and received a hearty welcome. At the close ot business a match was played between Mistletoe and Mornington for the District Euchre Shield. After an interesting game Mistletoe proved the winners by two games. A.D. iJfti. Mildenj hall, in accepting the shield, thanked I the Mornington Lodge for the manner I in which they hud been received, and j spoke of the good feeling existing be tween the lodges. Hook presided over a gooo attendance of members of Myrtle Juvenile Lodge on Tuesday night. P.D. P . Bro. D. Reid and P.A. Bro. Humble j were present as judges of the gene ral efficiency .competition. Arrang ■ were-made for next lodge night, when i the Juvenile .Council will be in attendance and take part in the mini .versary celebrations. At the close ol the meeting Grand. Secretary Bro Steel entertained the boys, who greatly appreciated his efforts, keen interest being taken in his remarks on the ha» lot box and how to vote. The usual toasts were honoured and responded to hy G.S. Bro. Steel, P.D.P. Bro. D. Reid, and P.A. Bro. Durable. The Royal Arch Chapter of Otago held its monthly meeting in the hah Dowling street, R.A.D. Bro. J. L. Walker presiding over a good attendance of members. Four certificates for degrees were dealt with. The past officers were admitted, and the degrees of A.D. and P-A. conferred on them. It was decided to hold a lodge of instruction next meeting Might. The chapter officers are paying visits to the lodges of Nos. 1 and 2 districts and holding competitions for the best delivery of initiation charges. Leave ol absence was granted the secretary so that he could attend a meeting of' the Board of Management, which had been arranged for the same evening as tfit chapter. MANCHESTER UMiTY The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal i Mosgiel Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., was held on Tuesday evening. Owing to the resignation of the N.G. (Bro. G. Cngli ton), who has left the district, G.M. Bro. E. Lyall was in the chair. Nominations for the vacancy were taken, and in view of the approaching diamond jubilee of the lodge three of the earliest members were nominated. P.P.G.M. Bro. W. Smellie being elected. The Prov. Cor. Secretary wrote re arrangements for the halfyearly meeting of delegates at Pembroke in September. It was decided to forward a remit to the effect that the following district meeting be held m the Mosgiel Lodge. Complimentary tickets, to lodge, balls at Milton, Kaitangata, and Loyal Valley were received. One candidate was initiated, and the meeting was tbeu adjourned, tbe concert party from the Loyal Valley Lodge taking charge of the proceedings. An invitation bad been extended to kindred societies, and a large number of visitors from the Foresters, Druids, and Buffaloes Lodges-were welcomed. The Valley brethren supplied an enjoyable programme, the following contributing;—Orchestra (under the leadership of Bro. Burton), Bros. C. Varcoe, G. M'Donald, L. Henderson, P.G.M. Young (vocal items), Bro. B. Young and J, .Mitchell (violin solos), J. Will ianis (guitar), and Bros. Elliotts (flute duet). At tbe conclusion of the programme the N.G. of the Mosgiel Lodge expressed their appreciation of the Valley brethren’s services, after which the hall was cleared, and a short dance held. A successful function con ended with ‘ Auld Lang Syne.’ The Loyal Centenary Lodge held its fortnightly meeting in the Forbury School Hall on Tuesday evening, the N.G. (Bro. E. Butcher) presiding over a fair attendance of members. Two propositions for membership were received. The syllabus for the evening was a card match with the Loyal Dunedin Lodge. The latter lodge not imis-T tering a full team, a friendly game was ’ staged. The toast of visiting brethren was responded to By Dunedin members, j The Loyal Roxburgh Lodge met on I Tuesday, N.G. Bro. Lyall presiding over a large attendance. A letter of recommendation was received on behalf of a member of a sister lodge, and he was placed on the medical list. The secretary briefly reported on the proposal to establish a dispensary. A conference between committees from the two local lodges, Oddfellows and Foresters. is being held shortly. The bal-ance-sheet, for the half-year ended/Juno 30 was -read to the meeting and adopted. |

j At tbe close of the lodge a visit was I received from Court Roxburgh (Fores- : ters). D.P.G.M. Bro. T. Michelle extended a cordial welcome to the visitors, i after which a card match was coirtested. This was followed by supper, after which Bro. Burton, of Court Roxburgh, thanked the members of Loyal Roxburgh for their hospitality. The fortnightly raeetin" of the Loyal Upper Clutha Lodge was held at Pembroke, N.G. Bro Lee presiding over a good muster of members. P.P.G.M. Bro. Goughian reported that satisfac tory arrangements had been made for the conveyance of delegates to the district meeting to' bo held at Pembroke on September 28. Members adjourned to the hall, where a successful social evening was held, taking the form of a euchre party and dunce. Mr and Mrs F. Thompson supplied excellent music, the lodge members providing supper. The Loyal Prince of Wales Lodge met on Tuesday evening at Port Chalmers, a fair attendance of members greeting N.G. Bro. Brown, who presided. An invitation was received to attend anniversary functions of the Loyal Valley Lodge, those including church parade, Past Grands’ evening, and a ball. It was decided to attend the Church parade on Sunday, and pay an official visit to the Valley Lodge on Monday evening. It was -reported that the dance held last lodge night resulted in the sum of £2 10s being placed to the credit of the children’s Christinas tree fund. A degree meeting was later held, P.G.s Bros. L. Jack and Fitzgerald officiating. It was decided to meet at -7.30 p.m. from next mooting and dur ing the summer months. The above named juvenile lodge held its fortnightly meeting on Wednesday, there being a fair attendance of members. The N.G. (Bro. Sutherland) presided. A practice for the juvenile initiation , ceremony was held. In connection I with the annual ball of the Prince of 1 Wales Lodge held on Friday last a j number of the members assisted in decorating the hall, and are to be congratulated on their efforts, the _ hall being tastefully decorated, contributing to the success of the ball. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Albion Lodge was held in the M.U. Hall, Stuart street, on Thursday evening. There was a fair attendance of members and visiting brethren, N.G. Bro. G. Wilson presiding. The Prov. Cor. Secretary wrote notifying arrangements for the half-yearly district meeting. A grant was .received from the district distress fund for a necessitous case, i Invitations were received to anniversary functions''in connection -with the Loyal Valley Lodge. One proposition for membership was received. Advice was received that a ■ meeting of P.G.s, convened by the P.G.M., would he held on Wednesday to make arrangements for forming a Past Grands’ lodge. At the conclusion of business members' wore entertained by Bros. E. Longworth, ,L. Calvert, and TI. Alpine. A progressive cnchro tournament was staged. Bro. T. Brooks proving 1 _ the prize-winner. The Social Committee also met to arrange for. ladies’ night next lodge night. RECHAOSTES .The third meeting of the Crystal Spring Juvenile Tent was held in the Caversham Methodist Hall on Wednesday evening. C.R. Bro. Harold Nixon presided over an attendance of over forty members. Although the tent was instituted only four weeks ago, it was very pleasing to witness the efficient manner'in-which-the .young officers performed the initiation ceremony and conducted the business. Nine candidates were initiated. A happy time was spent in games conducted hy Supt. A. V. Gain. The Primrose Juvenile Tent was well attended on Monday night," C.R. Sis. F. Pocklington presiding. In was decided* that an extension of time be granted for next meeting, as a par tv had been

arranged for members and friends. Snpt. Sister A. Coulter, assisted by Bro. and Sister L. V. Gain, kept the juveniles amused with various indoor games, and a very enjoyable evening was spent. The Hope of Dunedin Tent held an open night last Monday, when members wore invited to bring friends. The invitation was widely accepted, and a very enjoyable evening was spent, C.R. Sister C. A. Aburn presided, and curtailed the business in order to provide ample time for parlour games, dancing, and refreshments. One candidate was proposed for membership. During the evening Bro. and Mrs James Doig provided items, which were greatly appreciated; whilst Sister E. Burnnrd officiated at the piano for the dances.
