WORLD AIR CRUISE

THE GRAF ZEPFELIN HEADING FOR TQKIO ARCTIC STORES CARRIED. Pres* Aisociation—By Telegraph—Copyright. BERLIN, August 15. flio Graf Zeppelin, with twenty passengers on board, started from Fricdrichshafen for Tokio at 4.30 a.m. She started under ideal circumstances, and is now averaging 62 miles an, hour. Two passengers (Mr Pierce, Nan American millionaire, and his wife) missed the airship, though they made a rush journey from New Y T ork and chartered an aeroplane from England to Europe in the hope of reaching Friedrichshafen in time. Engine trouble, however, compelled a forced landing, and the Pierces just saw the Zeppelin passing over Berlin. In case the Zeppelin is stranded in Siberia, it has taken a store of Arctic provisions and guns to enable those on board to live under Arctic conditions. Should this happen, Sir Hubert Wilkins, who is again a passenger, will take command and guide the party to safety. Indeed, Sir Hubert formulated plans to meet such a crisis, but they were kept secret till the’ last moment, the Zeppelin Company fearing that disclosure would arouse a fear that the Zeppelin is not expected to reach Tokio safely.—Australian Press Association.
