Mr Frank Smith( who lias woni Jsinn euton for 'the British Labour Party, holds the record for persistent attempts to enter Parliament. He had been an unsuccessful candidate at nearly every election since 1892, inclusive—ten fail* ures in all. Mr Smith, who was for nearly twenty years a member of the London County Council, was a commissioner of General Booth’s “ Darkest England” scheme when it was inaugurated in 1890 He gave up the* uniform* and entered politica 1 life iu 1592.
