THE TRAMWAYS.

TO TICK EDITOR. Sir.—Anent overcrowding of trameavs, I have found it just as difficult to obtain a seat during crush hours in Melbourne, Sydney, and Auckland us I have in Dunedin, and incidentally had to pay a good deal more for my rides. Indeed, if a satisfactory solution for dealing with crush hour traffic could bo found, tramway managers throughout tho Empire would bo highly pleased. With regard to ‘‘ Ratepayer’s ” oft-repeated premise that the engineer-manager combination is a good one, I need only state that the most successful railways and tramways throughout the British Empire are supervised by general managers who have had no engineering training, but retain engineers in a subordinate capacity for their particular duties.— l am, etc..
