News from Now Orleans states that the acting mayor and four city councillors were attacked by an infuriated mob of tramway strikers in the Conn--1 cil Chamber. A police captain, who was battling his way to their aid with a pistol, fired shots, -which wounded four persons. j The riot was the beginning of wild ■' disorder throughout the city, which was not ended until the mob had stoned and burned a tramcar and terrorised the residents.—Australian Press Association.
