SOVIET TROOPS MASSING t ,WAR CONSIDERED PROBABLE Proas Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. HONGKONG, August 14. Chinese reports which reached here this morning state that there arc alarming Russian troop movements on the River Amur and_ surrounding districts, where the Soviet is massing its forces. The extent of the mobilisation is indicated by tho fact that there has been a suspension of all railway traffic near the Amur, for yi whole week, and coaches are being used for conveying troops. It is stated that encounters between Russian ami Chinese troops on the border are causing merchants to suspend business in Mauehouli, and they aro leaving the city as hurriedly' as possible. Local reports believe that war is probable.—United Service.
ALARMING REPORTS SOVIET CAVALRY ATTACKS VILLAGE SHANGHAI, August 14. (Received August 15, at 1L a.m.) There arc further disquieting reports of the Manchurian situation from Japanese sources. It is stated that a force of Soviet cavalry crossed the river Argun, attaeking t and Dalainor village, killing*a number of Chinese and throwing the bodies into the river. It is also staled that thirty Soviet employees on tho Chinese Kastern Railway were arrested by tho Chinese as the result of tho mines being flooded following a general strike. Observers report that tho whole situation is fraught with grave possibilities. The Chinese troops are organising the border defences.
