'VARSITY’S SPECTACULAR DISPLAY CANTERBURY COLLEGE DECISIVELY BEATEN WINNERS SCORE THIRTEEN TRIES. In one of the most spectacular games seen on Carisbrook for a long time Otago ’Varsity yesterday defeated Canterbury College in the annual match by 53 to 13. The Otago side was much superior to the opposition, and it was only <a question of how high the winning score would reach before the game ended. Both'the Otago forwards and backs played well, the latter excelling themselves in their passing bouts, their quickness at seizing openings and their ability to take advantage of the mistakes of the opposing side. The defence of the Canterbury side was certainly very weak, but this did not detract from the quality of the game provided by the Otago students, who gave their best display this season. All the Otago scoring came by way of tries—thirteen in all, of which seven were converted. The game was played at a fast pace, and was . thoroughly enjoyed by the crowd of over 2,000 spectators. The weather was deal for football and the ground in good order. THE TEAMS. Otago (Light Blue). —Full-back, Stevenson; three-quarters—Webb, M'Clymont, Bibby; five-eighths, Fookes, Bradanovicb; half-back, Loder; forwards—Hindenach, Douglas, Christie, Wilson, Grey, Abel, Aitken, Thomas. Tho effort was pulled up, hut in the ensuing scramble Douglas kicked up ami went over near the posts. Slovenson converted.
