HOCKEY

OTAGO ASSOCIATION A meeting of tlie Executive Committee of the Otago Hockey Association was held last evening in the Y.M.C.A. rooms, and was attended by Messrs H. F. Payton (in the chair), VV. Green, W. Picard, 0. Dey, J. Harris, D. Woodfield, H. Sew Hoy, L. Ireland, W. M'Queen, C. Duckworth, E. Webber, L. Waller, and J. Thomas. A letter was received from the Canterbury Association stating that tlio earliest date that could be fixed for the match for the shield was August ill. The present arrangements were for Canterbury to play Auckland on the 17th and Waikato on the 24th. Definite word had not yet been received tiom Waikato, and in the event of that asso elation not accepting the match Canterbury would be able to meet Otago on August 24. The Otago Association would be advised immediately if' any further developments eventuated.

The New Zealand Association wrote acknowledging Otago’s affiliation tee and shield challenge lee. It also advised that the .shield challenge was now in order, and Canterbury, the holders of the shield, had been notified. The shield matches to be played were with Auckland and Waikato, ami this association would he in order in communicating with Canterbury with regard to a date should Canterbury retain tile shield after the Auckland and Waikato matches had been played.—Received. The association agreed to the request ni : the Training College and High School Old Boys’ Clubs to accept the position of arbitrator under the rules and conditions of the annual match for the college and old boys’ trophy. Messrs M'Queen, P.ayton, F. Carter, and Berry were thanked for their assistance in connection with the South Canterbury visit to Dimedm.

Mr U Thomas was appointed coach to the association.
