UNABLE TO LAND

(Received August 13, at 10 a.m.) Pilot Brain, of Quant as Airways, tells a thrilling story of a novice pilot doing his first solo flight who was unable to land. The pupil came down a couple of times, but was unable to stop, and rose into tho air each time. Brain went after him in a small aeroplane, and attempted to signal to tho pupil, who to Ids amazement tied back the controls, and at a height of I,oooft climbed on to the tail of his machine, made some adjustment, and .then returned to the cockpit, and landed safely in a distant paddock, as did Brain
When asked what had happened the pupil calmly explained that something went wrong with the gear, preventing the machine from regaining the ground, and the only course was to remedy the defect in mid-air.
“You’ll do,” was Brain's proud but laconic reply.
