SHANGHAI. August 12. (Received August 13, at 9.20 a.m.)
The National Government announces the receipt of a reply from the United Sfates to the recent Note presented to the Powers requesting the immediate abolition of consular jurisdiction. It is understood that the reply refuses to consider immediate abolition though offering to discuss the question. it is believed that America's refusal is based on the belief that many Chinese courts are subject to military influence.—Australian Press Association.
