Builders and their friends are reminded that the Otago Builders’ Association’s annual ball eventuates on Friday evening at the Early Settlers’ Hall, Special. attention is being' paid to the floor of this popular dancing resort, and music will be supplied by Mr Dagg’s Orchestra. A record gathering is anticipated, resulting in a most successful function, y a * a. * In order to preserve the beauty of oak it is necessary to keep it well cared for. .Here is a craftsman’s secret for an oak polish, and for keeping the wood at its best. Mix together two ounces of boiled linseed oil, three ounces of turpentine, one ounce of vinegar, and a quarter of a pint of methylated spirit. Put it into a bottle and shake vigorously until the ingredients are _ well mixed. Apply it to the oak with_ a soft cloth where the surface is plain: where there is a carving, or ornamental work, brush it in with a nail brush. A piece of clean sacking or canvas makes a splendid polisher. For keeuing oak in good condition an old shoo brush, black or brown, gives it the lustre and polish of old wood that has “worn” polished with use. Without polish, the use of this brush will put a wonderful sheen on the wood and bring out the beauty of the grain.
A rather commodious wool store is to be erected at Port Chalmers for the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company. The building will be of steel frame covered with galvanised iron, and «yll be 150 ft long by 90ft wide. Tenders for the work are now being called by Mr H. M'Dowell Smith (architect).
