MELBOURNE, August ILL An organisation called the Town and Country Union has launched a cmnpaign in favour of the removal of the embargo on Java sugar owing to the hhdi jyrice of Australian sugar. It is claimed that while Australian sugar costs consumers £3O 10s per ton, Java white sugar could be landed at £lO 10s. The consequence is that Australia is paying £7,U00,000 a year more than alie should simply in the interests of a home-grown article which is now getting into the hands of .Southern Europeans. The union describes this penalty ns enormous. numoer or representative public bodies have pio mised to help in the campaign.
