DELANEY V. SHACK

NEXT FRIDAY’S CONTEST. It is many years since so mcuh interest has been aroused over a scries ot light programmes as is the case with that which is about to be launched 'by the Otago Boxing Association, and the lirst -proTessiqnal contest to be held in Dunedin for some time will be that between Sammy Shack, of America, and Bobbv Delaney, of Australia, at the Drill Hall on Friday next. It wall be a light-weight contest over fifteen three-minute rounds, and the boys bare such good reccl-ds that a fight much above the ordinary may bo looked for. Shack is a lighter of class, and has fought in many parts of the world, and has decisions over such well-rated fighters as Young Nationalists and Pete Nebo, ami in Manila he fought a draw with Kid Johnson, the Filipino sensation, whose meteoric career was checked by Jack Roberts. Shack was beaten by Billy Grime, and in a contest with Delaney in Sydney there was little between the contestants in a hard light, both hoys being down at different stages. Delaney is one of the most promising lighters Australia possesses at the present time, and his rise to prominence during the last few months lias been somewhat meteoric. He knocked out Norman Radford, bent Shack, and then, coming to Now Zealand, outed Bert Brown, who had done well in America, following this with a points win against Ern Connors. Both boys are in solid training for Friday’s engagement, and should take the ring in first-class condition. The main contest will he preceded by a, preliminary light-weight contest between F. Hood and T. Walker, the winner of which will represent Otago at the New Zealand amateur championships. It should bo one of the best preliminaries seen here for a long time.
