THE MAYOR’S FUND
£101,832 SUBSCRIBED
I Per United Press Association.! WELLINGTON, August 13. Within two months of the opening of fluids for the relief of distress consequent on the earthquake, the sum subscribed is £101,832 9s 2d. DAMAGE TO CHURCH PROPERTY At a meeting of the Christchurch Presbytery the opinion was expressed that church property came within the scope of earthquake relief. A notice was received from the clerk of the Westland district that the damage to church property was at least £SOO, but the Relief Committee considered that the church had no claim on the hinds. A speaker said that Presbyterians had added their .subscriptions to the central fund on the understanding that relief would be granted wherever damage had been done. It was decided that letters bo written to the Mayor ofChristchurch and the president of the Presbyterian Advisory Church drawing their attention to the fact that the claims of the church were not being recognised.—Christchurch Press Association telegram.
