ANY OLD CLO'?

ORPHANS* CLUB’S HAPPY IDEA

To the inquiry “ Have you any old clothes?” there was a fine response last night by the members of the Dim lin Orphans’ Club, the result being that; the Salvation Army, the Church of England Men’s Mission, and the Presbyterian Social Service Association cadi received to-day a pile of cast-off clothing that will enable them to meet many an urgent call from the needy folk of the city. It was a splendid idea on the part of the committee, and the members responded nobly, as the three immense warehouse baskets full of parcels testified.

This successful “drive” was a good start for the club’s fortnightly meeting, over which B'ro. W. E. Earnsliaw (vicepresident) presided. There was a, big attendance, and everyone appeared to be happy. Moreover, the programmer submitted was one of the very . best, those contributing to it being: Bros. H. Roberts, D. JM. French, J. Clark, A. H. Dale (songs), S. IT. Osborn (reading), E. Jiggers (ventriloquial act), 0. Gibbons (iluto solo), A. J, Blyth (’cello solo), and E. Kerr,, sen., and E. Kerr, jun. (cornet duet), Thu club’s orchestra, under Bro. E. Kerr, was up to full strength, and played admirably. Tho- Chairman announced that Iho next meeting would be tho annual “ Scotch Night,” and that the arrangements for tho orphanages’ outing in the Drill Hall on August 10 wero already in hand. Tho fund for the latter, he added, was still a few. pounds short of requirements. A letter from a radio listener at Mangapchi, North Island Main Trunk, expressing appreciation of the concert given over the air last week by tho Orphans’ minstrel troupe, was read, the chairman adding that several other communications of a similar nature, had been received by the Broadcasting Company. • ' ’
