A DISSATISFIED RATEPAYER

CHEQUE FOR SERVICE ONLY The order paper at local body meetings often contains letters from dissatisked ratepayers. On some pads of the Taicri there arc those people who claim to have received no benefit from the costly operations carried out there, ami one of these wrote as follows to yesterday's meeting of the Taicri River Trust:—“ I have received a letter from your solicitors demanding overdue rates. 1 wish to inform the Taicri River Trust that 1 shall send my cheque by return mail ou condition that the trust will try and give me something in return. I have paid since f‘Jl7 the sum of £lßl 10s 4d, and you are demanding for 192£) the sum of £lB 12s 3d, and all I have received is flooded land in time of rain, and have been deprived of drinking water for my stock in dry weather. I am not asking, for drainage, although the land is flooded by the contour, Wylie’s Cut, and the old Leo Creek, ns 1 know that with all your engineers and inspectors the. land of the members of the trust themselves is worse drained and protected from floods than ever. If the River Trust will not improve the water supply and attend to the ditch leading from it, I shall spend this £lB on a windmill. I don’t think 1 am asking too much, as 1 could get a supply from Outran! for less than £lB per year.” The trust resolved to notify the writer, Alex. Campbell; Outrani, that the rates must be paid. ■
