SOUTHERN COLLIE CLUB’S CHAMPIONSHIP ASSOCIATION
The annual meeting of the Southern Collie Club’s Championship Association was held last night in .Dunedin. Mr D. Ross (Palmerston) presided. 'the following office-bearers were elected:—President, Mr P. A. Watt (Clutha Club); vice-president, Mr J. 13. Purdue (Nightcaps Chib); secretary and treasurer, Mr J. P. Walls (Taieri Club); committee —Messrs Jack (Warepa), Scott (Taieri), David Ross (Palmerston). A. Matheson, jun. (Strath Taieri), and Henderson (Ngnpara). Dipton Collie Club applied for admission to the .association, ami was duly elected. Or. the motion of Messrs Purdue arid Thompson, Tuapeka Club was added to the association. The secretary explained that though an attempt bad been made to secure a list of dates on which the trials of affiliated clubs would be held, such had not boon possible, because some clubs bad not supplied him with the dates. As a result. Strath Taieri and Warepa selected the same dates, and Ngapara and Miller's Elat had also chosen the same dates, but the Ngapara Club had generously altered its dates so as not to clash with the championship meeting at Miller’s Elat. The Waihemo Collie Club notified fbaD it wished to withdraw from the as-sociation.--The secretary explained that be bad written asking for a reason for the withdrawal, but bad not so far 1 received a reply. The following remit from last annual meeting by the Garston Club—- " That this club is of the opinion that the championship meeting be held in a central position, and run under the auspices of the Championship Association ” —was considered. It was decided to take no action until Warepa and Palmerston Chibs bad had their turn. A notice of motion standing in the mine of Mr H. Scott was moved by that gentleman :—“ That the official list 01. judges bo cancelled at the June meeting, and that a new one lie drawn up, all names to bo placed thereon to be nominated by alii bated clubs.”—Carried. A recommendation from last meeting:—That the following be added to the rules was approved That the Maiden Long Pull and Maiden Hnntnway be the only events allowed prior to the championship being commenced.” The Strath Taieri Club forwarded through its delegate a motion that Ibis club was dissatisfied with the machinery under which the association worked, specially referring to the inconvicuco caused through dates clashing, and that the Championship Association should be dissolved, as it had failed to justify its existence.—Mr Malls seconded pro forma. He had felt that an organising secretary was required. The present secretary had not time to carry out details as completely as was required. He thought the motion, all the same, too drastic; but it would perhaps make clubs think a, little more. He referred to the ups and downs of the association prior to the war and afterwards, through the championship having been allotted to Nightcaps and Miller’s Flat two years ago, the work of the association bad been less or more “ cut ami dried,” and there was not much room for expansion, until these two championships had been run off. Now, it had been agreed that Warepa and Palmerston should I lave 19 JO and I Til championships ,aud again there was not much encouragement for activity. The motion that had been carried asking chibs to send in all dates before February .10 of each year would prevent a clashing of dates in future. That was, if clubs would fall in with the resolution. Ho quoted one club that had advised the secretary as late as April f of this year of the dates chosen for their (rials. How, then, was a secretary to compile a list of dates? He felt that a lot of good would come from a special meeting of delegates say about September, to discuss the working machinery and see if it could be amended. The motion, on being put. received only the support of the Strath-Taieri Club, and was accordingly lost. ’flic Strath-Taieri Collie Chib asked that all affiliated clubs he supplied with a number of programmes of each championship tria Is.—Ag reed to.
