HOTEL LICENSES
DUNEDIN SDUTH COMMITTEE The annual meeting ol: the Dunedin South Licensing Committee was held yesterday, those present being Mr J. R. Bartholomew. S.M. (chairman), Messrs J. J. Marlow, A. A, Campbell, R. \\. Hall, R. Teller, and A. Smilev. Superintendent Willis and Sub-in-spector Gumming represented the police. The Chairman said that the committee had had before it the police report, and reports from the Health Department and the building inspector. The reports did not call for any particular comment.—The police reported that the conduct of the hotels, on the whole, had been satisfactory; still ihe committee desired that the police should give every attention to a strict compliance with the law on the part of the licensees, and sheet home anything in the shape of illicit trading. Most of the places were in a satisfactory condition, but there were one or two buildings that required attention, and these would be referred to. WATERLOO HOTEL. Robert Kirkcaldy Aitcheson applied for a publican’s license for the Waterloo Hotel. The chairman said that this hotel required considerable repairs. Mr Cooke said that the owner had given an assurance that ho would carry out the requirements of the committee. The chairman asked if Mr Cooke was in a, jjosibion to give that undertaking. Unless there was reconstruction, or rebuilding, these repairs should be carried out.—Superintendent Willis suggested that the matter should be adjourned.—The chairman said the application would be adjourned for two weeks. A definite undertaking would have to be given before the license could be granted. BAY VIEW HOTEL. Saverie Masetti was granted a license for the Bay View Hotel. RENEWALS. The following applications for renewals of licenses were granted:—Matthew Henry Dawson, Parkside Hotel (Mr Allan); Martin Quirk, St. Kilda Hotel; Charles Gordon Shand,,B’itzroy Hotel; William John Hargreaves, Ocean View Hotel (Mr Lang); and John Herbert Pearson, Ocean Beach Hotel, Superintendent Willis stated that in connection with the last-named hotel the attention of the police had been drawn to a matter which had been rectified. The Chairman said that the rule as to it nob being necessary to keep lights burning outside licensed premises after closing hours would be continued.
