NOTES ON THE RACES All started in the Taieri Hack Handicap, for which Salmo Salar was made a much bettor iavouritc thuu Giejt Star, who had a slb apprentice allowance. Honeycomb, Haze, and I ans were evenly and nearly as well backed as Great Star. BTom an even start Great Star, on the rails, Felony, and Filosol were the leaders out or the straight, and going past the mile post Karitane ran up to Great Star, and tins pair led Haze, Nanette, and hilosol along the back. At the far torn Haze was leading Karitane, Great Star, Green Cloth, Honeycomb, and town Major, and, excepting that Honeycomb dropped out, this was the order at the home turn. Once in the straight the leaders left the rails, and Town Major got a good run through, and Was in charge at the distance post, where the favourite appeared on the outside wrth Great Star, Filosol, and Paris. In the run to the nost Town Major won by a length and a-half from Salmo Salar, who heat Great Star by three parte of a length for second place. B ilosol was only a head away fourth, followed by Ripclale, Little Queen, and I ans. Investments. £2.0781 (£2.190).
Onlv Cmuriersign was withdrawn from the King George Handicap, and
King Balboa and Circulation were each twice as well backed as-Circulation, who was a little better backed than Wjngatui, Narrative- or Royal Saxon. From a good start, after some delay caused by Fairy Herald, Money Mine, Prickles, and Royal Saxon were the first to show out, but after going a furlong Gay Sonnet had run up alongside of Royal Saxon, and they were just in front of Prickles, Money- Mine, and Town Bank. There was no change until after rounding the far turn, where Royal Saxon and Gay Sonnet were .still in charge, and Money Mine and Prickles were running- together next, just in front of King Balboa. Gay Sonnet and Royal Saxon led Money Mine, Prickles, King Balboa, Fairy Herald, and Circulation into the straight. Gay Sonnet dropped_ out at the distance, where Money Mine and King Bfilboa wide out put in good challenges. The latter’s was a shortlived one, hut Money Mine went on with-it, and beat Royal Saxon by a good head. Circulation, who finished fast, was three-quarters of a length away third, just in front of Some Rose, who' (ifiished under the judge’s box, Prickles, ami King Balboa, who were almost in line. Investments, £3,440 (£3,358).
All started in the Greenfield Hurdles, for which Troilus was sent out better backed than Magna Charts, this pair being much better backed than Amorist or Nine of Spades, who_ were the best hacked of the others in a poor betting race. Heisler led Magna Charta and the favourite over the first three hurdles, and after passing tho stand Magiia Charta took charge, and at the hurdle near tho mile post drew right away from Heisler, Nine of Spades, and Amorist, .the favourite dropping back. Magna Charta hit the hurdle near tho half-mile, and again halfway up the hill, hut these faulty jumps did not appear to affect him, and he won in a canter by three lengths from Amorist, with Troilus ten lengths off third just in front of Apache. Brightling and Heisler were next. Nine of Spades dropped out at the end of a mile, and the favourite never appeared to he able to get near tbe leaders. Investments, £1,980 (£2,325)-).
