MUSICAL RECITAL
The musical recital arranged by Messrs Clias. Begg and Co., Ltd., drew a full house at the Princess Theatre last evening. A varied programme was submitted, featuring the Gourlay foot expression piano and the re-entrant His Master’s Voice gramophone, together with assisting artists.
The recital was conducted by Mr A. G. Williamson, who made a few introductory remarks relative to the value of music in the home. The opening number was a .Scottish selection played by Air J. M'Caw’s saxophone band, a combination of local musicians, 'ibis was enthusiastically received, as was the piano duo by Messrs A. Wise and 13. Finlayson. A novelty turn was an exhibition of the. tile trot danced by Miss Pauline and Air AI. Smith, pupils of Aliss Wallace. Mr Lcs. Stubbs was in line form, and In's rendering of ‘Until’ and ‘Why Shouldn’t I?’ quite captivated the largo audience. These songs were accompanied on the Gourlay by Air C. E. Begg. A selection from ‘ Rigoletto ’ played on the Gourlay demonstrated the results to be had from this instrument in experienced hands. The remainder of the programme was made up of gramophone selections played on the new re-entrant His blaster’s Voice gramophone. The prelude to ‘Lohengrin,’ played by the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra, was without doubt one of the best. *Ciribiribin ’ sung by Bori, ‘The Lost Chord’ by Essie Ackland, and ‘AltAppall’ (from ‘Alartlm’) sung _by Tito Schipa were vocal items of special merit.
The recital dosed with the singing of the New Zealand anthem by Ernest Al'Kinlay and the National Anthem played on the Gourlay.
