.An involved case concerning liability under promissory notes came before Mr Justice Adams at Cliristcburcli yesterday. The Mercantile Finance Corporation, Cliristcliurch, sued Francis and Taylor, Ltd. (in liquidation), motor .salesmen, of Dunedin. and Norman Leslie Kninis, motor service proprietor, Blenheim, clainline from Emms £399, the amount of a promissory note duo on December 6, 1927, and from Francis and Taylor £1,096. The plaintiff company stated that it had advanced Francis and Taylor £2,0 IS in 1927, the firm assigning a hire purchase agreement. Tho defence, was a denial. The case was unfinished -when the court rose. Unemployment has cost _ Britain £633,887,000 since the armistice, more than half of which has been paid out in benefit and £106.235,000 in Toor Law relief.
