ARTIST’S LOVE ROMANCE quiet and happy wedding. A happy little romance of the art world was brought to light in London a few weeks ago. Mr Lionel Ellis, one of tho discoveries of last year, secretly, married his model, Miss Jeanne Bcilon, on the morning of boat race day. The fact was made known a, week or two later. Miss Bcllon, who was Mr Ellis's model for the ‘Jeanne’ which first brought him fame, has-sat for him for three years. Ho said to an interviewer: “ Tho portrait of Jeanne was my first.. I painted it immediately after leaving the Royal College of Art.Miss Bcllon, who is a London girl, came to me as a model in the ordinary way. We were married at the Kensington Register Office. I am afraid t have had no honeymoon, for immediately after the ceremony I had 1 to return to my studio to get on with my work.” ‘Jeanne’ was exhibited at Sir Joseph Duvecn’s British Artists’ Exhibition at Plymouth last year, and Sir Martin Conway. M.P., who was chairman of the exhibition, said: “Wo have the satisfaction of having revealed a young artist whose future may prove as great as that of any artist who has ever lived.” “Another pictmc of my wife is at present on exhibition in the Walker Art Gallery at Liverpool,” said Mr Ellis. ““Two years ago my wife herself took up painting and has done remarkably well at it.'’ Mr Eilis painted the portrait or Damo Millicent Fawcett, which __ was presented to her by the National Union of Societies for Equal Citizenship. Ho is now engaged on a, portrait of Miss Phvliss Astor. daughter of Lady Aster He is also undertaking the woodcut illustrations for a book by Mr Jack Lindsey, the poet and publisher.
