ENGINE SEVERS WRIST. A serious accident happened to a railway employee in the Thermion railway • yard (Wellington) last night, when ’J’. Townshend. whoso duty it was to load coal into buckets prior to it being transferred 1o iocomolives, 101 l down and came to rest with his left arm lying across one of the rails. An engine. came along at the moment, the wheels passing over the left wrist and sewering the hand. Tim ambulance was immediately summoned, and the injured man was removed in the hospital, where it was found necessary to amputate the arm. BORSTAL DETAINEES DEATH. A coronial inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death of a young inmate ol the Borstal Institution was held at Invercargill before Mr W. Id. Woodward, S..M. Dr Basil Lawn, assistant medical officer at the Southland Hospital, said the deceased was admitted to the hospital on April 25 in a serious condition, the result of genei alised tuberculosis, which ended in h.s death on May 12. C. G. L. Pollock. superintendent of the Borstal, said that the deceased was admitted to Hie hospital at the institution on January 111. although he was under (ho do'— tor from (he date of his arrival. Tho coroner returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence. terrific; crash. A terrific crash between a motor car (driven by William Hoy Hill) and a, tramear occurred in Moieswortli street, Wellington, last night. Hill, who resides at Pitt street, was accompanied by two lady passengers, and was proceeding up Moieswortli street from town when his ear came into collision with a (ram which was approaching town. The impact was violent, llm motor car being badly smashed and tho running hoard lorn off the tram. Hill was found to he suffering from a compound fracture of the skull and wounds to the face, and he was unconscious. His companions i eccived minor cuts and suffered from shod;. Shortly after midnight Hill was semi-conscious, and his condition is not regarded as serious.—Press Association.
