NO CRIME
IDYLLIC CONDITIONS The idyllic conditions which prevail in two English counties were described before the Police Commission, Viscount Leo of Earcham in the chair, lecently (states the London ‘.Daily Telegraph ’). Mr F. W. Colder, Chief amiable of Rutland, said there was 'cry little crime in the county, and most of the offenders came trom outside. The Chairman “ You arc a blameless county?”—“ We look upon ourselves as a virtuous county.” The Chairman : “ A most idyllic district. No oft ol ices and no coripnints. Do they give white gloves to -no Chid Constable every wear?” Mr Colder: “1 should have a huge .stock if they did. The force cm sis ted of a chief constable, an inspector, two sergeants, and twelve constables.'' Mr A. S. Michael, Chiet Constable of Radnorshire, asked if there wire any special crimes in his district, nphed: “No: the Radnorshire people no very law-abiding, and there is iot gicat deal of crime ini the county. Iho last serious case they had was --nen a golf clubhouse was broken into. A hay fork was stolon. That was still being inquired into, and the matter was not yet cleared up. ■ . Rutland is the smallest count- in 'England. Lying between /incolns’iire, Northamptonshire, and Leicestershire, its area is only eighteen miles by seventeen and the population, at the last census 18.1368. Radnor is in. South Males, and lies between Hereford and Cardigan. Dis 4-‘io square miles, with a population of 26,523,
