STUNNED AND MAIMED
YOUHG MAH HACKED WITH POCKET KNIFE A BLENHEIM SENSATION [Per United Press Association.] BLENHEIM, May G. It is reported that a sensational incident, possibly without precedent in tbo dominion, occurred in the suburb ol Velverton on Saturday afternoon. It is alleged that, following upon a dispute in j.cgard to family matters, a young man was knocked out, and while in a state of unconsciousness, was operated 'upon with a pocket knife, and maimed for life. It is further alleged that, upon completion of his pm pose, the assailant bandaged the victim, and put him to bed in his house; hut being unable to stop the flow of blood from the wounds inflicted, ho finally became alarmed, and after a laji.se of lour or live hours, summoned mcdieal attention. The victim was removed to hospital, where lie is lying at present. As a: sequel to the alleged occurrence, 'William Henry Osgood appeared in the Police Court this morning charged (I) That on May -1, at Velverton, lie did assault one Archibald Bennie Meek so as to cause actual bodily harm ; and (2) that on the same date, with intent to maim, lie did disfigure the said Archibald Bennie Meek. Senior-sergeant Clarkson represented the police, and made no statement in regard to the facts of the case. Ho applied for a remand for eight days, and indicated that a further remand ivould then ho applied for. He also asked that the first charge should be -vit.ndrawn, and suggested that the remaining charge was a very serious one, and hail should he; substantial. Accused was remanded, and hail was fixed at £IOO, and one surety of a like amount.
