[By Totem.] There will be a social and danco in the Ocean Beach Troop Hall to-morrow evening (Wednesday) Mr J. Tl. Kirkwood, •horseman's badge examiner, will hold a test at Spencer and Dnnkley’s stables, Lower Rattray street, on Saturday afternoon next, at 2 o’clock. Scooters arc requested to send in tho names of all wishing to sit for tho badge on’ or before Friday, the 19th lust., to D.S.M. Aguew. Would any seoutcr having spare copies of tiie ‘ Scon ter ’ for January, February, Marcli, and June, 1920, kindly communicate with “ Totem,” as one of the officers of tho district is desirous of completing his volume for that veai - .

There was 'a very enjoyable social held at the -Ith (North) Dunedin Headquarters on Friday evening, opportunity being taken to make presentations to cx-Seontcr Phelan (now D.S.M.) and Cnbber Gridgenum (who was recently married). The evening commenced at 7.30 with the present scoutmaster's remarks. Ho stated that he was very pleased indeed with tho boys, and hoped they would continue the good work. So far this year there have been no less than eight boys enrolled, which is very pleasing indeed. These remarks were followed by a song by Miss Alathicson. Mr Martin, assistant commissioner, after a lew words on scouting, handed to Cubbor and Mrs Gridgenum a handsome clock bearing a silver inscription, the gathering •singing “ For they are jolly good fellows.” Dir Muntz (chairman) then expressed to Airs Gridgenum every good wish for the future. .He then presented D.S.M. Phelan with a framed address, and Mrs Phelan with r beautiful rose bowl, wishing him every success as D.S.AI. Scon tor Phelan spoke ol the recent Hood, and said he must praise Seoutcr Kirk-Buruuaml and boys on the excellent work they performed. A few items I‘hen followed, completing the evening’s programme. Genera! troop work - and the passing of second class tests by several ol the boys formed the working part ol tho programme at the parade of the 9th Dunedin (Alobican) Troop, on 'Wednesday evening last. Scouts 11. Phillips and S. Phillips are u> be congratulated on completing their second class tests—a worthy achievement, as they have not yet been in the troop a year. The 10th Dunedin (Green Island) Troop had a good parade on Friday night, practically a full muster of the troop answering the roll. The work earned out was, for the first part ol tiie. evening, tenderfoot work, several recruits passing in the subjects in which they were tested. A start was made on second class work lor those members who have passed the tenderloot, Assistant Sconler Brookes being in charge of this squad, while Scooter A!nlie was instructing and examining the recruits. Air Sloan, chairman ol the Troop Committee, was present during the evening. The troop is now three years old, Inning been commenced in 192 G.

The 13th Dunedin (.St. Alartin’s) Troop held its weekly parade on Friday last, there being a fair attendance ol Scouts. After roll call the first hallhour was spent in signalling practice. A I’ter this the boys wore divided into groups, doing tenderfoot, second class, and badge work. During the evening the troop was visited by Seoutcr Kennedy, from the Aloliicans. CUBS. The .second star test was held at Chisholm Park on Saturday afternoon lasiunder ideal conditions, twenty-two Cubs entering. The various subjects for examination were taken by the following:—Calibers Gridgemau, Smith, Constable, Dick, More, and Jlodgcrson. The following are the results Caversham : X. Brooks, 77 per cent,; D. While, DU per cent. ; Percy Harwood, 7d per cent. St. Clair: Ken. APCallum, 90 per cent. Aforniiigton: 0. Smith. Port Chalmers; William Porter, SU per cent. Roslyn: William Sharp, 90 per cent.; Alcn AJ‘Keclmic, 80 per cent. The following Cubs have still to qualify in the .subjects:—Caversha m : Signalling (receiving), Tims. Brown. St. Clair: Signalling (-eliding and receiving), lan Robertson. Victor Mazoy (sending), Lewis Kerr ( receiving). Mornington; Andrew Alutimcr (message). Jack luaiii (receiving). St. Andrew’s: Jack Hardy (receiving), Roby Henderson (receiving). Roslyn; Fraser APlutosh (receiving).

The 4th (North) Dunedin Rack- held its weekly parade in tho George Street School Hall on Friday evening last with a record attendance of furty-lour boys. Three new names were added to the roll. Owing to social arrangements the pack did no work lor the evening, but retired to the large hall lor a varied programme, of games and items. Twenty-four buys answered the roll enll of the Roslyn Panther Pack, held at Coronation Mall, Maori Hill, last Wednesday. One. hoy, Graham Diet;, was invested into the pack. About twelve boys are working lor their first star, while there are a number devoting their time to second star preparations The proficiency badges at present being worked for are: Guide, weavers, collectors, and .signallers. The parade was brought to a close by forming I he council circle and repeating the Cub promise.

On Friday evening last the St. Andrew’s Cub Pack paraded at the Waddell Hall under Cubbers Smith. Simpsou, and Kerr. After roll call the buys who were to sit for the .second star examination on Saturday went through a final intensive study of their work for it. There being no new boys to sit lor their tenderpad, Cubbor Simpson gave the rest of the pack a lecture on the composition of the Union Jack and the Uses of the various knots iu their first star examination. The boys then had drill and games, followed finally by the “Grand Howl,” taken by Cubbor Simpsou. During the evening Senior-sixer Collins was successful in passing the examination for his signaller's badge.
