JOKE ON THE POLICE
OUTWITTED BY BURGLARS There was a humorous in a police roundup at Limoges, Trance, recently. The police were moved to take drastic measures in order to discover a gang of burglars who. during three months, had committed numerous burglaries, robbing workshops, offices, and private houses in turn. I heir hauls of money and jewels were important. The police expected to take tho burglars by surprise, and to the number of sixty, not counting the gendarmes and a force of police inspectors from Cler-mont-Ferrand. they began operations between 2 and 6 a.m.. and questioned 300 persons. But the men wanted were not among them, for the reason that they were engaged _ in another burglarious exploit, and in the Town Hall, of all places. A ouarter of an hour after the police had left the Town Hall the burglars entered tho mniro and made ior the accounts office, hoping to lay hands on a large .sum of money. But they were disappointed, for they found only 500 francs, and by way of revenge they cut up the registers and piled up the dossiers on the floor When the policemen returned, tired after their fruitless mission, and saw what had happened, they were, as can be imagined, surprised, and not a little depressed, „
