CORRESPONDENCE

CITY MAYORALTY

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Kindly permit me space to express my disapproval at the decision of Mr Douglas to become a candidate for the city mayoralty. 1 have nothing against Cr Douglas as a candidate. I have always been one of his staunch supporters, hut I think the office of mayor should be a rolling one for the following reasons: —Councillors put in a lot of their time and energy serving the public, and to my mind the only reward they can expect is to some day roach the top of the ladder, which, 1 think, is the only ambition 'chat will ensure us getting the best from them. Seeing that Cr Douglas was elected unopposed when ho aspired previously to the position, it would bo only lair for him to stand down now in favour of those who have served the council for long periods, and have non had a turn. — ] am, etc , - E.vir, Pi.ay. April 15.
