HEAVY DUTIES OVER SEARCH FOR AMUNDSEN S BASE. [By Rcsski.l Owen.] Copyright, 1928, by the New York . * Times ’ Company and St. Louis ‘ Post Dispatch.’ AH Eights for Publication Reserved Throughout the World. Wireless to New York ‘ Times.’ BAY OF WHALES, April 12. The attempt to find Far-nheim, winch was Amundsen’s base during his stay here in 1911 and 1912, is being made now that most of the camp work is done and there is time for recreation from the laborious duties of the lastfew months. It is much like looking for a needle in a haystack, but despite th-5 low temperature of 38cleg below zero, it is an interesting puzzle, and nearly everyone wants to participate. Farnheim should be four miles south, near the great pressure area at the foot of the bay. There are peculiar hills of snow in that locality, some of which correspond with similar features described by Amundsen, but so far the location of his hut has eluded the most careful search. This is not so remarkable as might seem, as an enormous difference of contour may be effected in seventeen years.
