MANCHESTER UNITY

The Loyal Prince of Wales Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., entertained a large gathering of members of the order on Tuesday everting, the occasion being an official visit from sister lodges. This various lodges -in the city and suburbs ■were well represented, and the P.G.M. (Bro. P. Young), P. Treas. Bro. ASligo, ami P,P.G.M. Bro. W. J. Johnston were also present, representing the .District Executive. The N.G- (Bro. L. ’ Jack) presided, and extended a cordial welcome to the visiting brethren, stating that the Prince of Wales J .edge was always pleased to receive visits from any of the city lodges. Be referred to the successful visit made by the lodge on Saturday last.to the Loyal Maniototo (Rnni'uriy) Lodge, which was highly appreciated by the country brethren. A visi.t to the Loyal Prince Alfred (Waikouniti) Lodge was also contemplated in the near future. Before commencing business a motion of sympathy' 1 with Sister Dunlop (Princess Mary Lodge) was carried. The new P.G.M. (Bro. P. Young) was intro-' dnoed to the gathering by P.P.G-M. !Bro. Johnston, who referred appreciatively to the P.G.M.’s services on the executive. The district officers were toasted. The P.G.M. thanked members for their kindly reception, and spoke cm district matters. He commended brethren to extend their support to two important branches of their activities—the juvenile movement and the Past Grand Lodge. which would shortly be re-established. He referred to the approaching diamond jubilee celebrations of the Fort MoJyneux Lodge, and outlined the arrangements made for transport ami accommodation of city members attending this function. The P.G.M. apologised for the absence of the P.C.S. (Bro. Hopcratt) and the D.P.G.M. (Bro. T. Michelle), of Roxburgh, stating that the latter’s services as a district officer would be invaluable in the central area. ; Bros. Sligo and Johnston also acknowledged the toast. The lodge was later adjourned and an enjoyable programme arranged by the Prince of Wales brethren was carried out. As a compliment 1 to the large number of lady members of the order present, a short dance was held after supper, Bro. Jack officiating at the piano. - A successful meeting concluded with cheers for the Prince of Wales brethren. the latter including a member of the Loyal Bongoten Lodge (Bro. Gray) and Bro. Havant (Loyal Maniototo). Sick members were reported to lie progressing favourably. Lodge business was quickly dealt with to enable the programme for the evening to he carried out. This took the form of a social and dance, the host being Bro. T. K. Bidey, who annually entertains members of the lodge. The popularity of Bro. Sidey’s evenings was evident by the large number of members and lady friends who attended- An enjoyable evening was spent in dancing and cards. Bros. Jarvis and Wilson supplied the music for the dance. 'Hie evening concluded with a hearty vote of thanks to Bro. Sidey. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Albion Lodge was held in the M.IJ. Hall, Stuart street, on Thursday evening, a good muster of members greeting the N.G. (Bro. E. Downes), who presided. A rehearsal was held for the forthcoming initiation competition. One proposal for membership was teceived, making a total of six awaiting initiation. ft was decided to suitably com'memorate the anniversary of Anzac next lodge night. A card shield match. Centenary v. Albion, was played, the visitors proving victorious by a good margin. The toast of “Visiting Brethren” was responded to by Loyal Centenary, Caversham, and Dunedin Lodges. 'The business transacted at the annual district meeting was discussed, the delegates from the lodge being accorded a vote of thanks for their services. An invitation was received to attend the jubilee celebrations in conneotion with the Loyal. Alexandra ■ (Port Molyneux) Lodge. The southern area initiation competition will lie held in the local lodge room on May 4. One candidate was proposed for membership. It was decided to commence the winter syllabus next lodge night, meetings to commence at 7.-‘3O during the winter months.
