THE DOUKHOBORS AGAIN
NAKED FANATICS CHASE THE POLICE CRAN'D FORKS (8.C.). March 2C. 'the Doukhobors, a fanatical Russian sect which settled in this district some years ago, are at war with the Provincial police, mainly over the question of the compulsory school attendance of the children of the Sectaries. Yesterday two policemen were obliged to flee before a mob of angry and naked Doukhobors when they attempted to arrest three of the latter. Hundreds of naked fanatics confronted the police, who retired pending the arrival' of reinforcements, and the result of a conference with Peter Veregin, the leader of the Doukhobor colony in British Columbia, who is endeavouring to control the more fanatical element among his followers.
