ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGE
SHOT IN THE NECK [Per United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, March 21. Frederick Richardson, aged iitly-six, a market gardener, was charged to-day with attempting to murder John Armstrong, aged lurty-two, at Fapanui on March S. He pleaded not guilty, and was committed lor trial. Bail was not allowed. Armstrong has completely 10 covcred. Armstrong, giving evidence, said that, after an argument about who had left a certain gate open, accused said witness was a. “ d—- liar ’ and witness replied that accused was the same. “ Accused told me to get oil the place or he would shift me.” continued witness. "1 shut his gate as 1 left, and walked down the lane, holding Hid hand of Mr Bartlett’s little girl. I was going towards Bartlett’s gate, when, turning round, I saw accused with a gun up to his shoulder. He fired, and J got it in the nock and shoulder.” A detective said that when arrested, accused stated: “ Yes, I shot him. 1 did not know that was his name. How is he? Where did I get him, ” Richardson denied that he attempted to commit murder.
